Currently, the Crown Point Police Department is in need of funds to be used toward a federal matching grant for updated bulletproof vests. Since bullet proof vests “expire” every 5 years, or sooner based on use, there is a constant need to replace outdated vests, and this has created an opportunity to support the Crown Point Police Department.
Sadly, current statistics show the real importance of bullet proof vests for law enforcement:
On average every 5 days an officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in America.
Between January 1 and September 30th, 2021, 59 police officers were killed in the line of duty in America. This represents a 51% increase in the number of police officers killed to the same period in 2020.
As of December 1, 314 Police Officers had been shot in the line of duty in 2021. This amounts to nearly one officer shot every day during the first 11 months of the year.
During the year 2020, 60, 105 police officers we assaulted while performing their duties.
On Friday, April 22nd, First United Methodist Church, along with community and corporate sponsors, will present “Bears and Badges”, a fundraising dinner at the Halls of Justice featuring former Chicago Bears, including Kevin Butler who will both speak and meet with guests. Come join us for a great meal and a chance to meet and hear from two classic Bears and help support our local Police Officers in this important way.
The cost for the event is $50 per ticket, and you can also purchase a ticket to be donated to a local police officer.
