First United Methodist Church of Crown Point has approximately 740 members made up of 440 family units. We joyfully welcome all new members. No matter what brought you to our doors, we would be honored to have you call us ‘home.’
Requirements for Membership
If you are not transferring your membership from another UMC church, you:
- Must be a baptized believer of Jesus Christ. If you have not been baptized, you may be baptized day you join the church.
- Must make a public profession of faith and commit to supporting the church. This will be done with your sponsors on the Membership Sunday that you join.
- Must attend a New Member Class prior to joining.
Attending a New Member Class is required prior to joining. Classes are held approximately every 2 months and usually take place on a Sunday afternoon at our church. It is an informal meeting with people, like you, who are have some interest in becoming members, our Pastor, and our Newcomer Ministry Coordinator . At the class, you will learn about the United Methodist Church core beliefs and about opportunities for you and your family within our church family. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions. We do not require official membership for you to attend services or participate in congregational activities; however, we would be honored to have you join. If you want to join after attending the membership class, you can let us know any time that you’d like to join on the next Membership Sunday.
A sponsor is a member of the congregation who volunteers to present you to the church on Membership Sunday and encourage you in your faith journey. You may choose someone you know or we will gladly find someone for you.
On your Membership Sunday, you will meet in the Parlor with your sponsor before the worship service. A name tag and corsage will be given to you and pictures will be taken of you for the newsletter and directory. During the worship, you will stand up front with your sponsor and other new members and take the “vows” of membership.
